trapping leprechauns
March 17, 2009
My son had a homework assignment to build a leprechaun trap. They had pretty much free reign on what they wanted to build. I handed it to my husband, though, and said “this one is all yours”! I am not mechanically inclined by any sense of the imagination. They spent many hours on this homework assignment. While he was working on it, my son turned to me and said “mom, this is the best homework assignment EVER! I didn’t even have to pick up a pencil and write anything!” He didn’t want it to end either. This coming from a boy who you have to practically strap down to get his homework done. He had so much fun. In fact, he even picked up a pen and wrote “do not enter” on his trap to entice those pesky leprechauns to enter. He was very proud of his project and very excited to show everyone how it worked.
I was telling someone this story and they said “just wait until he has to build a volcano”. I told them he already did this to bring in for show and tell in kindergarten. Most kids are bringing in basic photo’s and items to show their classmates. My son was bringing in erupting volcanoes, circuitry that made things spin, wireless routers, and many other fun items for his show and tell. The class even gave him the honor of “the best show and tell guy” in the class!’
